CLEARVIEW ICECATS GIRLS HOCKEY ASSOCIATION
Volunteer of the Year Award ñ We are asking for nominations from the membership for ìCGHA Volunteer of the Yearî. This person would be someone who gives up their time for the better of the organization and we would encourage you to nominate those that are not currently on the executive. Please send all nominations via email to Deb Rowles 705-333-3558 . History The Clearview Girls Hockey Association started in October 1998 with 3 Teams formed at the Novice "C", Atom "C" and Peewee "B" levels. The membership consisted of approx. 42 players. The Association was founded by Glen Godovitz, when it was evident that there was a need for Girls Hockey in the Clearview and surrounding areas. Glen was previously involved with Girls Hockey programs in both Burlington and Barrie. Many young female players were playing Minor (boys) Hockey and were looking for an alternative that would allow them to play without injury and fear. There were also several other females interested in trying the game for the first time, which became apparent at a "Try-On" day that was held in the spring of 1998. During that first season, the Atom "C" team earned a berth to the Provincial Championships and were successful in winning a Silver medal. This was a significant accomplishment considering that almost half of the players had never played hockey prior to this first season. The Peewee "B" team narrowly missed advancing to the Provincials, after a long 4 game playdown series with Barrie that was decided by 1 goal. At the end of the 1998 season, the membership formed it's first Executive Committee. Glen Godovitz assumed the role of the first President of the Association. The following season the Association doubled in size as more then 90 females registered to play. Today, the Association has over 180 members and has grown to be one of the strongest Associations in Central Ontario with teams playing at various levels from House League to "AA".
